Perhaps the perpetually out of service escalators are keeping us safe. This morning, a girl was hospitalized after getting her foot caught in an escalator at the Minnesota Avenue metro station. According to The Washington Post, paramedics had to free the girl from the grips of the metal moving stairs. This escalator is now out of service...which will be virtually unnoticed by daily commuters, as we experience non-functioning escalators all the time.
The injuries sustained by the girl were minor, and she is expected to be ok.
