I am pleased to report that service to the red line has been fully restored. Riding thru the accident area on Friday afternoon was pretty uneventful. Aside from new chain line fencing, its hard to tell that anything ever happened there.
I saw Andrew (aka Mr. Wendell) on Friday afternoon. It was my first time seeing him since last Monday. "Monday was the last day I saw you. You were thanking me for the fish I brought you."
He replied, "Yeah?". "Well after we spoke, I went on to the station, and I missed my train. When I got near the escalator, I heard it pulling off." "Yeah?", he replied again with the tone of 'where are you going with this?' I continued..."Well the train that I missed was the train that crashed. Had you not been here to talk to me, I would've been on that train!"
It was definitely an interesting moment. He had a look of shock on his face as his jaw dropped. "You jokin!?" "Not at all. My train arrived at Takoma, and we sat there with the doors open for a few minutes. Then the operator told us what was going on. Then a few minutes later in came all the rescue personnell. It was crazy."
It's a bizzare story. Here's this total stranger that I've opened a line of communications with after seeing him year after year. I decided to be nice and give him some fish that I caught, and he keeps me out of harms way without even knowing it. So many times many people (myself included) walk past panhandlers as if they don't even exist. Hell, I still do it to many of them...but not Andrew. "Man, God is great ain't he?", Andrew said. "Isn't that something?" he continued. "Yes indeed. It's been a crazy week." "Have you told anybody else this story?" he asked. "Man...EVERYBODY who knows me knows you!! My whole family knows who Andrew is!" He got a chuckle out of that...but its true.
In other news, Tuesday was a record setting day for iMetro with OVER 2,400 hits. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.
Let's see..OH! I met iMetro reader/wheelchair correspondant Craig last week! Craig invited me to come out to the Nats/Red Sox game on Thursday evening a while back. He reminded me earlier in the week, so I went on down to meet him. With the popularity of the Red Sox, the game was pretty much sold out. I had to buy a STANDING ROOM ONLY ticket for $10. WTF? How do they have $5 seats, but it costs $10 for standing room only? Shouldn't it be like $2.50? But anyway. I met up with Craig and we chatted for an inning or so. This was my first time meeting any of my blog readers (those who I've know prior to iMetro don't count!). Good times! Craig is trying to get me to run a 5K race...hmmm...the jury is still out on that one!
The weekend is almost over...I swear they are getting shorter as I grow older. Yesterday I took my nephew to the zoo. I met my coworker and her daughter there. Good times!
Afterwards, the evening was too nice to let it end. So I took my oldest stepson for a Saturday evening flight. We flew up to BWI, where I just practiced a few procedures there. I let him take the pics, most of which sucked. But he did get a couple of good shots!

You should come out to a happy hour some time, dude. I know you like the beer.
I'm glad u told Andrew that he kept you from getting on that doomed train. Small things like that can make people feel really special and appreciated. God is smiling on you for that. Who knows.....Andrew may really be your guardian angel. *wink*
I agree with Ericka, it must have been an amazing feeling for Andrew to hear your story of your delay and his part in it. Things like this make you stop and think and really look at what's important in life.
