This model car was the type of train car involved in the accident. It was the lead car on the train that crashed into the other one. It was not equipped with data recorders. The NTSB recommended that this type of car be equipped with data recorders years ago. This recommendation/concern was never addressed by WMATA.
The stationary train that was hit, comprised of newer model cars, was equipped with data recorders.
I just finished watching the live update. Speakers were Mayor Fenty, Cathy Lanier, John Catoe, and the NTSB representative.
