I know you're eager to start your work day, so I won't keep you long this morning.
What's the deal with "door blockers", as seen here? Do these people not realize how much they clog the process of entering and exiting the train? There is a reason that passengers are instructed to move towards the center of the car. I can understand not wanting to move to the center of a crowded car if you're just on for a few stops or so, but I see folks block the doors for the entire duration of the line.

Do you not get tired of having to move out of peoples way every stop? Or do you just not give a damn? Do people realize that turning sideways doesn't really help? You are not "thin man". I think we should make these offenders serve a purpose. We'll call them metro ambassadors. I say we give them a stack of pamphlets containing useful information, or perhaps a bowl of mints, allowing each boarding passenger to grab one on the way in. (Nothing worse than sitting and talking with a person with bad breath!) That'd be pretty cool.
And now for a few random things...
YAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
-MetroRail commuters are smarter than MetroBus commuters. Survey data shows 56 percent of Metrobus and 83 percent of Metrorail riders have college degrees. No wonder there's always an idiot on the bus who can't figure out that coins go into the slot one at a time.
-Have you ever seen an 8 car train on the Blue Line? For FY 08, eight car trains were only approved for the Red, Orange, and Green Lines.
-The approved 2008 budget for WMATA payroll was $215,737,347.
-The average annual pay as per the WMATA 2008 Budget Book is $77,700
-Metrobus was approved for an operating budget of $452.8 million, $145M of which was generated from revenue.
-$379.8M (of $452.8M) goes to metrobus personnel.
-The approved 2008 Budget for metrobus tires was $2.5M
-The average age of a Metrobus is 8.1 years (with some as old as 18)
-Metrorail was approved for an operating budget of $638.1 million, $505.1M of which was generated from revenue.
-$499.4M (of $638.1M) goes to metro rail personnel.
-The Red Line is estimated to operate 26,534,962 rail car miles in 2008. (rail car mile = miles traveled x # of cars. For example, if a 6 car train travels 3 miles, that counts as 18 rail car miles). Second to the red line is the Orange Line, with 13,791,442 rail car miles.
-The red line breaks down once every 10.6 rail car miles.
- The Blue line operates 7-four car trains during rush hour (the only line to do so).
-Metro's largest parking lot is at Vienna, with a capacity of 5,849 (minus a few due to a few asshole soccer moms with SUVs who can't grasp the concept of being in between the white lines). By the way, am I the only one who loves Vienna Sausages?
-The smallest parking lot is Deanwood, having only 194 spaces.
-Why the hell are mattresses ALWAYS on sale?

Apparently I need to work for WMATA!!! Wow.
Don't let that figure fool you. There are some over-inflated management salaries. I once recently read the metro's GM makes in excess of $300K. that isn't confirmed...but Im just sayin...
i once encountered a door blocker that was reading a newspaper ( small like the express or examiner). when it came time for my stop, he just kept standing there with paper extended, so i crashed right into it on my way out the doors!
being that WMATA provided my family with a comfortable living (ie, my Dad worked for them) i ain't can't even say nothing about the salaries...but its definitely for management and not your everyday bus driver, etc.
Wow! I knew I could come in here for a much needed laugh, thx!!
Im glad I could brighten ur day. Metroman does it for the people!
umm does that say the red line breaks down every 10.6 car miles, or pretty much every other trip if I'm reading that right? :-|
LOL Mykeesha, my bad. I meant to note that I made that one up. I thought it would add a chuckle or two.
Thats the only thing on the list that I fabricated though.
Lmao okay because I was about to ask why they would even admit to that!
It's believable though!
What about those educated ie smart door blockers? (I'm one of them since I know the door doesn't open on one side from Woodley Park ALL the way to Shady Grove...) gee, ain't I edumacated?
Psst... I also use a wheelchair and I do that to get out of all the idiots' way... It's amazing what you see people do, wheelchair or not...
Hey Quas,
Thanks for reading. I know exactly what you mean about being a "smart door blocker". The second leg of my commute is similar to yours after we pass the Smithsonian metro station. The doors only open on one side of the train.
NYC transplant in DC...door blocker comment
1) entering train, push people aside or in or out of your way
2) exiting train, push people aside, or out or out of your way
(i don't care if you 8yrs old or a frail 80yr old, I'll bullrush you and then flip u the finger and say go eF urself if i hear anything from your piehole)
3) I am a door blocker! listen to the metro announcment (and repeated by poster)...it says 'go to center of the train'...um, the center is where the doors are, so I am doing as told...bitch to metro to fix the pa
4) DC is waaay to conservative and tight assed
